Why is US inviting Iranian diplomats to July 4th parties?
U.S. embassies and consulates around the world may invite Iranian diplomats to Fourth of July parties as part of the Obama administration’s outreach to a long-time foe, a State Department official said Tuesday. The official, who spoke on the condition that he not be named because he is not authorized to talk to the press, told The Washington Times that Iran is on a list of permitted foreign invitees sent Friday to U.S. diplomatic missions. The New York Times first reported the shift, quoting another unnamed administration official as saying the action made sense at a time when the U.S. was seeking engagement with Iran on issues such as Afghanistan and Pakistan. The Obama administration also wants Iran to start talks on its nuclear program but has not made any specific new offers to Iran in the runup to its June 12 presidential elections. The U.S. has been considering other gestures, such as permitting direct flights between New York and Tehran and allowing routine contacts between U.S.
The U.S. is most likely invting Iranian diplomats to July 4th parties to spread goodwill to its Iranian partners. The U.S., although I’m not sure, has not had any troubles with Iran in the past and is trying to keep this. Due to rising conflicts in the Middle East the U.S. would most likely want to keep the hostilities down and try to avoid any fighting with Middle Eastern countries. Thus, it would be a wise and welcome decision to bring Iranian diplomats to July 4th parties as a way to show there ano problems between us and Iran. Besides, there is no premise by which the U.S. would have reason to not invite Iranian diplomats. Overall, this move is certainly wise and is simply the U.S. trying to spread friendliness amongst countries that it may well want to stay friendly with.
