Why is UC investing in the Australian Synchrotron?
Australian scientists who need synchrotron techniques are currently forced to go overseas to undertake leading edge R&D. Many researchers want to use synchrotron techniques but have not yet been able to. Escalating demand for overseas beamline time is squeezing out visiting scientists. This new Australian facility will bring the tools our leading researchers need much closer. The biotech sector will benefit from access to the synchrotron, as will minerals industries, agriculture, forest industries, advanced manufacturing, materials engineering, environmental technology and many other sectors.
