Why is turkey traditional at christmas?

Goose used to be traditional – I think the American tradition of Turkey at Thanksgiving crept in somehow!

We’re german so we always have something minimalist on Christmas Eve (ie cheese pie) and a huge goose on Christmas day. I guess it depends on your family and origins.

I think it’s more what each family wants to do. We usually have soup and ham when we get together with my Father’s side. My Mother’s side is a big pot-luck as there is usually more than 50 people there! For our immediate family Christmas we have something different each year. But I always request that we have the traditional Dutch Saucijsjes (pig-in-a-blanket)! YUMMY!!! sausage wrapped in a dough and baked….SOOO GOOD!!!
