Why is trace evidence important?
Unlike some physical evidence such as blood or fingerprints. Trace evidence can not be avoided, it is always present in some form. When two objects come into contact with one another there is an exchange of material (Locards Principle). Laboratory analysis of this exchanged material can help police to place a person at a crime scene, determine if a vehicle was in contact with another vehicle or help determine if contact between two people has occurred.
