Why is tourism so important to Canadians?
One reason why tourism is important to every Canadian is because tourism dollars help to support the economy. Through taxes, for example, this money helps to develop and maintain our infrastructure (our highways and bridges), our education and health care systems, and other initiatives for which governments spend money. Some tourism dollars are used to help support and protect our culture and heritage. For example, governments spend tax dollars on museums and heritage sites, and also on celebrations and expositions that help us all as Canadians revel in the diversity of our country and its people. Many people are supported directly by tourism, but many more gain indirectly from the dollars spent. Another reason why tourism is important is because of the way in which it binds us together.
