Why is Titanium Dioxide safe to consume?

0

Titanium Dioxide is an insoluble and inert mineral found in the Earth’s crust. Its crystalline geometry enables it to reflect light many times over making it the whitest substance known and ideal for imparting whiteness to products. The Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) have concluded that titanium dioxide is not absorbed thru the gastrointestinal tract or stored in the tissue, nor are there any safety concerns associated with the use of titanium dioxide as a food additive at levels ranging up to 3%. The titanium dioxide content in So Delicious® Coconut Milk Creamers is well below this limit and at approximately half the level permitted by the FDA which allows for only 1% by weight in foods.
