Why is there such a strong emphasis on following the guidelines precisely?
Despite the variety of ways we emphasize the importance of following the guidelines, we receive a number of entries for each of our scholarship essay contests in which students still fail to follow them. It would be unfair for us to subjectively determine whether a failure to comply with the guidelines was “significant” or “insignificant,” so we believe that the most fair solution (especially for those who DID follow them correctly) is to reject entries that do not comply to all guidelines.
