Why is there so much support for legalizing marijuana?

I do not smoke it, or take any drug for that matter. I do not understand the attraction to drugs at all. I have fired people because I suspected that they were users, and have shunned former friends who turned out to be users. All that being said, I see no reason to waste money fighting a problem that really only hurts the one who uses the drug. The crime that surrounds the drug trade, outside of the initial illegality of the drug trade itself, is largely due to the fact that the trade is illegal. The users who commit crimes to support habits are of weak character, and prone to committing crimes anyway. Drugs should be legalized, regulated and taxed. If a person wants to take poison for some perceived high, then that is their right to do. No taxpayer funding for rehab or other treatment should be offered. All people should be free to choose what they do to themselves even if it is harmful and woefully stupid. Allowing the sick, weak and stupid to die off is necessary if the human race
