Why is there so much poverty and disease in India?
It is truly baffling that the powers that be in India have and are still resisting any solution to solve the most fundamental problems of their country. I know India a little bit. I have worked and stayed there several times. The very rich can do almost anything in India. The system works for them. If they need a document, like a passport, one call to the richt “uncle” and they can go and pick it up yesterday. Poor people can wait for a few months, if they get one at all. This is just a little example, but it is important. We think the Indian political and social system is bad, corrupt and wrong. No, it is a splendid system, it works perfectly . . . for those who have power. And they are determined not to change one iota of this system that has made them so rich and powerful.
