Why is there only 27 amendments in the Constitution?
Amending the Constitution is no easy task. It requires a 2/3 majority vote in both houses of Congress and ratification by 3/4 of the States. As a matter of fact the 27th amendment was part of the original 12, only ten of those twelve passed in what we now know as the bill of rights. It took over 200 years for ratification of the 27th amendment to be complete.
