Why is there not English commentary on rugby games shown on S4C?
S4C is keen to take full advantage of new technologies which will allow us to offer enhanced ‘red button’ services on some programmes on S4C Digidol. However, there are contractual issues which need to be addressed before we can proceed with dual language tracks on certain programmes, including sport. S4C acquires the right to broadcast these events in the Welsh language only, with the English language rights often being granted to another broadcaster. So, for example, S4C shares the broadcast rights to Welsh rugby with the BBC and Sky has the right to broadcast most football matches played in Wales in English.
