Why is there no real competition against Tescos in Highland region of Scotland?
Well, I will be honest, I have never been to Scotland at all. But this kind of things happens in Ireland as well. My mother and my two brothers all work for Tesco Ireland and I think it is simply down to the fact that Tesco are giants in the supermarket industry-they tend to hold a bit of a large market share, hence why they are constantly being monitored by the competition regulators, for fear they could cause a monopoly. In the words of my brother, Tesco are a powerful company and their power and money allows them to talk a lot more loudly than their rivals.
Crowkit…we ARE in the Highlands thanks, and YOU being in Inverness (110 miles south from us) should know that this area is plagued by Tescos and nothing else. The nearest Asda to us is Elgin which is in Aberdeenshire, not Sutherland where we are. All the time. Tescos play monopoly with other supermarkets, they offer pants in the way of choice and seem to stream role anyone else bidding on land in the area. Our nearest Tescos is in Ullapool and it’s crap, it caters for a tourist market , not large families like ours. And Tormolly who I know VERY well has been in the Highlands longer than you’ve had hot dinners, she is also a grandma!! Dave S….bugger off lol, at least when I open the curtains I look out onto the sea and mountains, not someone elses backyard!!
