Why is there no pit or front ensemble percussion section?
This is actually quite common for many traditional college marching bands. The style of music performed by the ECU Marching Pirates relies heavily on battery percussion. Furthermore, with the amount of travel and moving around that takes place on game days, it is difficult to include pit percussion which takes a lot more room and time to move. Game days at the NCAA Division I level are very scripted and time is of the essence when setting up for performance.
