Why is there no longer left-hand navigation on some pages?
Generally, the role of the section landing pages (particularly for the 2nd-level sections of the site such as “About IEEE”) is to organize and explain the content within that section. User testing found that the presence of a left-hand navigation on these pages was redundant. However on other site pages where the focus of the page is on a specific topic within that section, the menus were determined to be useful in allowing visitors to easily move laterally across these pages.
