Why is there no formal Trinitarian blessing at the end of the Eucharist during Lent?
A. The blessing at the end of the service is always optional, subject to a “may” rubric. The rector takes the option of replacing it with a “solemn Prayer over the People,” which is supplied in The Book of Occasional Services, a supplement to the Book of Common Prayer. The blessing is restored at Easter, the idea being its value is highlighted after a Lenten fast from its use.
