Why is there more than one Fairtrade label?

0

In the early years each Labelling Initiative had its own certification label. In 2002, FLO launched the international FAIRTRADE Certification Mark that you see in most countries today. The goal of the new mark was to improve visibility of the Mark on supermarket shelves, convey a dynamic, forward-looking image for Fairtrade, facilitate cross border trade and simplify procedures for importers and traders. FLO is made up of 19 Fairtrade Labelling Initiatives. 17 member organizations use the FAIRTRADE Certification Mark to signify that Fairtrade standards have been met. In the USA and Canada, the Fair Trade Certified labels indicate that the same Fairtrade standards have been met.
