Why is there difference in consumption between equal power rated incandesent and halogen and candle bulbs?
The power consumption is the same, but in some types of high efficiency bulbs there is not just a filament but some electronics for starting purposes and this alters the power factor, which means that the load is not just resistive but is inductive. The dimmers are electronic and can only take a lesser load if the circuit is inductive.
