Why is there a September 15th deadline to participate in the Food Stamp Challenge?
• Congress has taken up the task of writing a Farm Bill to replace the 2002 version. Already, the House of Representatives has voted and passed a Bill that will now go to the Senate. If we want to influence our Senators to pass a Farm Bill that strengthens the Food Stamp program and our nations commitment to people who are food insecure, than we must do it while the Senate is still debating the issues. It is expected that the Farm Bill will be a priority for the Senate after their August recess and come to a vote before the middle of September.
