Why is there a requirement for animals from most Long Haul countries to travel in containers which have had an official seal applied to them?
A7. This is a measure aimed at protecting public and animal health. From some of the Long Haul countries, direct flights to the UK will not exist, nor will it always be possible for pets to be carried by an authorised carrier for the first part of this journey. Some direct flights may need to stop for refuelling in a country which is not rabies free. Making pets travel in a container bearing an official seal gives a better guarantee that pets arriving here will not have been exposed to rabies en route.
