Record crowd expected for Iowa Corn 250 By Luke Meredith, AP Sports Writer DES MOINES, Iowa — The Iowa Speedway was made great strides since it opened in 2006. The Rusty Wallace-designed track has landed minor NASCAR races for later this summer, and officials expect to draw more than 40,000 fans for the first time on Sunday for the third annual Iowa Corn Indy 250. The track recently added 6,500 temporary seats, boosting the seating capacity to 36,500. With hospitality tents, suites and standing-room only tickets thrown in, Iowa Speedway president Jerry Jauron said he expects to draw about 42,000 for the Indy Car Series race. The inaugural Iowa 250 drew nearly 36,000 in 2007, and last year it drew more than 39,000. “It is amazing, for a private track, to do what Iowa Speedway has done,” Jauron said.
