Why is there a need for the Wildlife Heritage Foundation of NH?
In many states, non-profit foundations have been established for the purpose of providing new sources of funding for specific programs and projects related to fish, wildlife, and habitat conservation. Fish and Wildlife Foundations are not intended to be budgetary supplements to normal management and operations of fish and wildlife agencies. Rather, they focus on supporting specific programs or projects that the agencies couldn’t otherwise afford. Therefore, the main goal of the Wildlife Heritage Foundation of New Hampshire is to provide limited financial support for programs and projects that cannot be supported by the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department through its normal revenue sources. Fish and wildlife revenues from licenses and fees are in decline across the country. This is a national trend for which there are many causes, including a decline in hunting and fishing participation; loss of habitat to development; an abundance of activities competing for people’s spare time; and
