Why is there a need for increased port capacity in Poland?
Previously, Poland only had two smaller container terminals serving a population in excess of 37 million and these were reaching their practical limits on capacity. Road and Rail have been handling almost half of all Polish container trade but clearly this proportion will quickly become un-sustainable. Early indications from shipping lines indicate that there is significant pent-up demand for a deep-sea, modern container terminal at GdaĆsk.
