Why is there a need for an organization like the Lost Sheep Foundation?
Sadly, clergy sexual abuse is a reality today. It has not gone away. Not only are there abuse victims of clergy today, the effects of abuse from decades past have not gone away. The admonition that victims hear to “just get over it” is both callous and cruel. Survivors tell us that recovery and “getting over it” is a day-by-day activity. They work at it on a daily basis, one day at a time. This is the reality of going from victim to survivor, and the experience of this is totally a personal matter with each survivor experiencing a different path. The LSF must be there on the path of recovery in case we are needed. We hold the information to the tools that will help. The Lost Sheep Foundation must be present to offer the help and encouragement. The Lost Sheep Foundation is often the first group with whom victims speak because we go where the victims are.
