Why is there a mixture of calcium sources in the new Active Calcium tablet?
It is now known that calcium carbonate and calcium citrate are equally absorbed and utilized when taken with food and adequate vitamin D. The amount of elemental calcium in the Active Calcium has increased from 135 mg to 200 mg per tablet. It is not possible to provide this increased amount of calcium from calcium citrate alone. Therefore, to reach a more advanced amount of elemental calcium, a mixture of citrate and carbonate was necessary.
