Why is there a ban on personal wireless access devices and 2.4 GHz phones?

These devices are disruptive to the MU-WIRELESS service and can cause problems for other users when used. MU-WIRELESS operates on the 2.4GHz frequency. Note that only devices which operate on the 2.4Ghz spectrum are banned; 900MHz and 5.8GHz phones are still okay to bring on-campus. Personal WAPs are banned due to both the security risk and the interference they pose to MU-WIRELESS.
