Why is theory of plate tectonics is accepted by scientists?
This is probably not the straight forward answer you expect, but you have to understand the scientific process. An idea is put forward, with supporting evidence. Scientists then seek to pick apart the idea, and look for holes and other evidence that contradicts the idea. Some of the objections result in further investigations, and further uncovering of evidence. And that evidence is then picked apart. The parts of the ideas that withstand scrutiny can then come together to a larger picture, which can then become a theory. And those parts are then picked apart looking for holes. That results in the theory being refined. So you can look at a theory as a set of ideas that has withstood scrutiny and has a basis that can be supported by evidence. It is not set in stone, and can be revised as further evidence is discovered. But a theory has consensus as being reliable and backed up by sound evidence. On the other hand, gravity is scientifically, a law, not a theory. Gravity can be readily sh
