Nothing in life is free. If there is a service that is in demand, you can bet someone will charge for it. They have expenses associated with running the servers. They need to make money to cover those expenses. Last time I checked, Microsoft was a for-profit company, not a charity. My bet is that the Sony service will not be free for very much longer.
