Why is the south called “dixie”?

0

Southerners as well as Northerners know where the term originated from. But many “theories” exist as to how the term came about. One such theory is that a former slave owner named Johan Dixie or Dixy relocated to the south when slavery was abolished in the north. Another theory is that Mr. Dixy was a very kindly slave owner and that the slaves referred to his land as “dixieland”.
