Why is the sound quality different for some tracks?
RAO strives to have the most exciting music possible, obtained from the furthest frontiers of the world of digital music, delivered to you in the highest quality available. When I first began broadcasting, I used the MusicMatch program to rip music at 128kbps. For more recent CDs, I now use Winamp at 320kbps. We do have a few tracks ripped from vinyl, as well as from analog concert recordings. Volume for all tracks has been set at a uniform 93db using mp3Gain. On occasion, I digitally repair track flaws, and this should be inaudible to our listeners. I always try to buy the original CD. However, I will buy compilations when the original is out of print and unavailable used. If compilations are mixed, I eliminate the cross-fades, and then fade in and fade out individual tracks. Some artists will also upload tracks for me to download, so I cannot have complete quality control in some situations, although I use no tracks below 96kbps/44,100Hz.
