Why is the “somethingsomething” different from the one in the PHB?
I guess you are referring to the Speak Language Skill or the Damage Vulnerabilities: I think the skill in the Players Handbook is not really logical the way it is, so I slightly adjusted it: You don’t make checks, you spend ranks to gain additional languages, so it’s basicly different from other skills. The total number of skill points in Speak Language indicates how many languages your character can speak (additional to Common and Racial Languages), so says the PHB… But since your characters’ INT modifier also provides bonus languages, it is plausible to give Speak Language INT as modifier and not “n/a”. Also there are classes that have this skill as a class skill, e.g. the Scout from Complete Adventurer. As for Damage Vulnerabilites, this is a reference to Damage Reduction or other things that might harm you, it’s mostly a generalization of those things.
