Why is the significance of counties with trout waters in NC?
A. In North Carolina, two agencies, the Wildlife Resources Commission and the Department of Environmental Quality have trout designations used to ensure protection of the resource in the state. Certain activities, depending on the activity, stream designation, and time of year, may be restricted in order to protect this valuable resource. If you are in a “trout” county, check with your Corps representative to see if you may be impacting a WRC or a DEQ trout water before you plan your project.
