Why is the SIGGRAPH Asia 2009 submission deadline so much earlier than it was for SIGGRAPH Asia 2008, even though the conference will be later?
The deadline is earlier for several reasons. In an effort to control travel time and expense for the SIGGRAPH Asia 2009 Papers Committee meeting, that meeting is held the weekend before the summer SIGGRAPH conference, and that conference is a week earlier this year. There is also an added week in the review process, just before the Papers Committee meeting, for extra reviews of papers for which the originally selected reviewers cannot come to a consensus recommendation for acceptance or rejection. In the past, such extra reviews were done during the meeting itself, which placed a burden on the extra reviewers, and did not allow them time to do the best possible reviewing job. The deadline is on a Tuesday rather than a Wednesday, to allow an extra day of preparation for the papers sort (see Review Process).
