We recognise that research funds are currently restricted and taking the Residential Research School out of the country may seem an unnecessary extravagance. However, the reason for holding the School in France is an economic one. We are able to arrange travel, half-board accommodation, conference and breakout facilities in France for a fifth less than the lowest price we have been able to find in the UK. Even allowing for the marginal increase in travelling costs and the declining value of sterling, holding the School in France is simply cheaper than holding it in the UK.
