Why is the relationship between twins different from that of other siblings?

I think its because they start their lives off together from the very beginning. They have never known a time when it has just been them on their own. From the womb they are responding and reacting to one another and this continues from newborn through their relationship. They spend so much time together because of the same age and development stage that they get to know one another very well at an early age. I have girl/boy fraternal twins aged 7 and identical girls aged 2. Even though my eldest twins are different sexes they are still enormously close and they do miss one another when apart. Interestingly enough, my identical girls fight a lot more than the fraternal twins ever did probably because they have more to compete over because generally they are after the same things.
