Why is the REF being phased in so soon after the 2008 RAE?
We are committed to delivering the framework as set out by the Government in the pre-Budget report 2006, which stated that the new framework will start to inform funding (in the science-based subjects) from 2010-11. In order to achieve this, we will need to run a bibliometrics exercise for the sciences during 2009. We plan to phase in funding from the new arrangements gradually between 2010-11 and 2014.
