Why is the Red Carnation the national flower of Spain?
I’m not sure about that. I’m Spanish but I was unaware that we had a national flower. In fact, I think we don’t have a national flower. The flower that usually represents us is the Lilly because our King belongs to the Bourbon dynasty. This is the flower that appears in our flag. The red carnation is a very popular flower in the south of Spain and Spanish women usually wear them in their hair when they are dress in the typical andalusian costume, so many people may associate that flower with the Spanish culture. ————————– To Anna: the symbol of the Spanish Socialist party (PSOE) is a red rose, not a red carnation.
