The rally is against Two Tier Justice and for Equality of Rights. Neither will be addressed simply by settling the land claim – Ipperwash is still outstanding and those people still live under Two Tier Justice everyday. The land claim problems in Caledonia have only proven what the OPP mindset is and how our governments, for over 20 years, have created such a system. Settle Caledonia all you want but the rally is addressing a far bigger and more important fundamental issue – one of human rights. Almost everything we do now in Government, we create an exemption for Natives – this is unacceptable. In June the Conservatives brought in the Accountability Act – Reserves are exempted. The Conservative tried to bring in Property Rights for Native woman (in a divorce the woman have no rights and leave with nothing) – this would be unacceptable in every other group in Canada but the bill did not pass.
