Why is the proposed program good for Nebraskas livestock industry?
The answer to this question was addressed in part by the response to question 1. Both Nebraska and Iowa livestock producers need quality veterinary health care delivery. One of the major purposes of the proposed program is to emphasize and strengthen education in food supply veterinary medicine, including production animal medicine. We anticipate the Production Animal Medicine option (dual degree Nebraska students and four year Iowa State students), when fully implemented, will graduate between 35 and 40 students each year who have interests in production animal or mixed animal practice. These graduates will be available to serve the livestock producers of both states. Further, the proposed evidenced based medicine initiatives will enhance direct services to veterinarians serving the livestock industry.
