Why is the proposed new foyer so large?
Another identified major shortcoming of the current church is the lack of an adequate gathering space directly adjacent to the sanctuary. Gathering space is a critical element in thriving church community. The gathering space is a place of transition. There are both social and liturgical reasons for gathering as a church community. Consider the possibilities for an expanded gathering space. Meet friends before going into church Provide seating for those being dropped off at the door and who need to wait for a family member to park the car Linger after the service for refreshments and conversation More space to hang up coats Provide improved access to restrooms; particularly for handicapped individuals Take fussy children out during worship, yet still be part of the worship community Sit in comfortable chairs before or after the service Space to set up tables for special event registration/information Space for a kiosk or message center for posting church events and other news.
