Why is the principle of least eligibility relevant in todays political environment?
Less eligibility was intended to make workhouses a deterrent, and stated that working conditions in the workhouse had to be worse than the worst job possible, it existed to deter the poor from claiming poor relief. In today’s political environment with job losses this could be relevant in regards to the state of the economy.
