Why is the Pool Drain Cover Recall Necessary?The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and eight manufacturers of pool and spa drain covers issued a massive recall on May 26, 2011, of the consumer products due to incorrect ratings. Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled drain covers, which include are incorrectly rated to handle the flow of water through the cover, and could pose a possible entrapment hazard to swimmers or hot tub bathers. Why is the recall necessary?Answer: The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) determined that some pool and in-ground spa drain covers have been incorrectly rated by independent third-party laboratories for protection against body entrapment. All of the leading drain cover manufacturers are cooperating and participating in the recall.
