Why is the poem “The Grass” by Emily Dickinson an excellent example of poetry?

0

The purpose of poetry is to tell you something you didn’t already know. (‘Poetry is news that stays news.’ Ezra Pound). In The Grass, Emily Dickinson takes something that we see every day, and rarely even think about (grass). She makes us see it in a new and fresh way; she wakens our attention and our appreciation. The poem speaks to our intelligence, by piquing our interest in all the ‘little’ that grass has to do. It also engages our emotions, by reminding us how wonderful a thing grass is. The poem makes us new and fresh, by showing us a world which is new and fresh.
