Why is the Plan touted as not just being a brick-and-mortar building effort?
The plan goes beyond just creating seats. It also aims at reforming our system so that the children in those seats are better educated. It provides an opportunity for MPS to improve the education offered to our students and the neighborhoods around our schools, while it involves the community in making our schools lighthouses in the neighborhood. The plan promoted a number of programs that parents told us they wanted, such as before- and after-school care, more bilingual education programs, full-day K4 and K5, and more specialty programs.
