Because Giuseppe Panini, who loved riddles and puzzles, invented his own crossword puzzles under the pseudonym “The Knight”. In the 70s, there was also a magazine for Panini sticker collectors whose testimonial was “Pipino The Knight” (Pipino stood for Giuseppe).
