Why is the non-fasting method of blood testing used?
Using the non-fasting, or ‘random’, method of blood testing allows as many workers as possible to participate in the WorkHealth checks. This is because non-fasting blood tests suit the situation in which the tests are being performed – morning, afternoon and night, in workplaces and on various worksites. Non-fasting blood testing does limit the scope and variety of tests which can be performed, but it is suitable for the purpose of the WorkHealth check, which is to provide valuable and accurate information to assist Victorian workers to understand their risk of chronic disease. If fasting blood tests were performed in this testing environment, they would pose a significant burden on those being tested without significantly different results.
