Why is the nine-pointed star a symbol for the Bahai Faith?
The nine-pointed star is simply used as an emblem representing the number nine. In Arabic, each letter is connected to a numerical value. The numerical value of the word Bah is nine (b=2, =1, h=5, =1; note that there is a short vowel which does not count, and the acute accent represents the hamza). Nine is also considered by those who are interested in numbers as the sign of perfection. For these two reasons, the number nine is often used by Bahais when an arbitrary number is needed.
