Why is the NHL fighting a Pheonix move to a place that is profitable?
Because Bettman doesn’t want to look like he failed… When the league rescued Buffalo, Pittsburgh and several Canadian cities – those were all decent hockey markets. We’re talking about a city in the desert now… where 95% of the people knew next to nothing about Hockey and the NHL before the Jets arrived… A nice medium sized fanbase has evolved but thats about it. The region isn’t interested in hockey. Eveyone knows a circular ball won’t fit into a square shaped hole… but Bettman will do everything he can to prove you wrong. The third worst draw in the league. Only the Islanders & Thrashers were worse. Now that the Roadrunners folded, They go from two hockey teams to none. The Coyotes give away more free tickets than any other team which is the ONLY reason why they are not last in attendance.
