Why is the new Youtube Downloader so much slower than the old one when downloading video?
YouTube Downloader uses the same Windows functionality to download videos as Internet Explorer does, so it will always download video as quickly as as Internet Explorer. Youtube Downloader 2.5.x adds support for downloading higher quality videos (HD and HQ) from YouTube. This slows downloads for two reasons. First, it takes time for YouTube Downloader to detect what versions of the video are available. Then if it finds a high quality video, HQ videos are much larger files than older “Normal” quality FLV videos, and HD videos are even larger than the HQ ones. These larger files will take longer to download. However, you have a much higher quality file to play on your computer once it’s downloaded. If you don’t care about the video quality, set your “Download Quality” to “Normal” under the “Download Options” menu and it will be as fast as older versions were before HD support was added. You can always change it back later if you decide you want the higher quality video. We recommend you
