Why is the New Look fixed width instead of fluid or elastic width?
Fluid or elastic web pages resize to fit the screen resolution of each computer. This flexibility creates problems for web designers when they come to layout content on the page as different screen sizes will change the way the page looks. In order to provide a more consistent presentation across multiple browsers we decided to move to a fixed width layout. The site is now fixed width to accommodate the 1024×768 resolution which represents the majority of our daily visitors.
