Why is the national speed limit so high?

0

The national speed limit for a single carriageway is 60mph and has been in force since… as long as I can remember, at least the late 80’s Cars have advanced so much in braking technologies and road handling that if you were to compare the cars and the speed limits back then, it would be like being able to do nearer 80mph today on a single carriageway, for this reason I DO NOT think it’s a high speed. The problem with most collisions on single roads/country roads are that the person in front is not sticking to the speed limit and so the person behind does not see the person past the corner until it is too late. Meaning if everyone done the speed limit (Where it was safe to ofcourse) there would be a lot less accidents.
